Mark & Lisas Veggie February: Day One

So as most of you are probably aware, I was dared by a colleague that will remain nameless to go vegetarian for a month. He claims that I would be unable to do it for a whole month. Me being the stubborn git that I am accepted that challenge. I am to go vegetarian for ONE MONTH. I chose February and at the same time i thought to myself why not kill two birds with one stone and raise some money. I have chosen to raise some money for Diabetes UK. I have setup a JustGiving page to allow anyone that wants to donate to this very good cause to donate. The link for this page is: Mark Baker Goes Veggie For February.

So, what are the rules of the month long challenge I hear you ask?

  • One FULL month of vegetarian diet (in this case 28 days as it is February)
  • No meat products of any kind to pass my lips
  • This is not a vegan diet challenge to I am allowed dairy products and eggs
  • No fish products (no pescatarian diet frown)
  • Whereas I am allowed to eat dairy products such as cheese, I am not allowed Parmesan as it contains animal fat.
  • No products that contain geletin.

So with all these rules in mind, My journey begins today.

Breakfast

So for my breakfast today I had a cheese ploughmans sandwich from Tesco, accompanied with a bag of skips, a bottle of Dr Pepper and a pot of apples and grapes.

Lunch

For my lunch I will dining on Tesco Vegetarian Mushroom stroganoff with wild rice. I do love me a good stroganoff so I had better have a good meal Tesco tongue-out

Lunch Verdict

Seeing as Tesco only seemed to have two vegetarian ready meal options from what I could see at the Bridgend store this morning, it seems that they are not that good. The mushroom stroganoff is quite bland in flavour. I did not have any salt or pepper to season it with. The portion size was OK but i would have preferred more in it.

All in all not a bad lunch. 6/10

Evening Meal

For my evening meal i decided to have a stir fry (homemade). It consisted of egg noodles with beansprouts, peppers, cabbage and tomatoes with some balsamic... I know Balsamic?! I thought it might have tasted shit but I was wrong. It tasted lovely! And for the meat substitute as i normally have chicken with a stir fry... I chose Quorn Pieces. It was bloody lovely. A perfect meal to enjoy Wales win in their opener.

Verdict: 9/10

Snacks

I have cheesestrings and more fruit as snacks for the day and a massive supply of Dr Pepper.

So, I will come back daily to outline what I have eaten and hopefully give you some insight to how im feeling.
